This is Barbara Kingsolver's newest book and it is non-fiction. The book details her family's journey from a life in Tucson, Arizona to their farm in southern Virginia. During their first year on the farm, the family makes a commitment to eat locally grown food only. This means no bananas, no coffee, no sushi. They grown their own food and eat what is growing seasonally. If they cannot obtain a food item from neighbors, they don't eat it. Kingsolver has researched how corporate america is in control of some of our most important food, such as wheat, and how this can be a threat to world food supplies. It outlines the importance of participating in your local food economy, such as farmer's markets. It also highlights the importance of knowing where your food comes from. If you haven't read a Barbara Kingsolver book, I highly recommend starting with one of her novels such as The Bean Trees or Animal Dreams.
